The Hole: Suggestion

Would it be possible/desirable to put The Hole in a group on its own? That way, the group could be collapsed if people didn't want to see new Hole posts displayed.

At the moment, if people want to keep up with General Chat and/or London Meet, new hole posts/thread titles/posters are in their face, as it were, whether they like it or not.

Personally, I wish threads from the Hole never showed up in the search for New Posts. Not sure how doable that is, or even how useful that might be to others.

That I believe is possible. I have already removed The Hole posts from showing up in the recent posts statistics at the top of the forum.

Well they are better. That's the purpose of The Hole - to remove offensive and therefore inferior posts from public view.

Having an argument can sometimes be constructive.

But a thread on the normal forum about Republicans can be offensive towards Democrats.

I don't have a problem with The Hole as such. My problem is that the vile stuff it contains was once in the forum proper, so simply staying out of The Hole doesn't offer much protection from the abuse.

If you see a post that you believe is not appropriate...the membership here has been given the opportunity to report the offensive post...
Report the post and tell us why you think it is needed to be moved to the Hole.
Simply put the membership is very active in this forum we the Admins might not get a chance to see it or a Mod might miss it too so we ask you to speak up via that little exclamation mark on the top of some ones post..
That helps us keep the trash out of the forum

I disagree that offensive posts are inferior posts. Maybe some people need to be offended. For them, the truth just hurts.

You showing pictures of beheaded people will not change any potential murderer or has already committed murder persons mind...they are MURDERERS...crazy people do not understand compassion ...people who kill want to kill unless it is a in need basis of someone trying to kill you then you are trying to save your own life...well hey ..but don't think being "shocking" works...especially over the internet...

As of yet...I have never met anyone who changed their way of life because someone showed them a graphic picture..

Obviously those that are gratuitously offensive have no place in the main forum however sometimes quite heated posts between some intelligent but touchy posters may step over the politeness threshold.

After all, not every discussion here is academic and some people do not tolerate fools gladly (guess who) and are often passionate about their convictions.

Some posts delegated to the hole have been first class until the usual suspects buy in with their one line witless insults.

IIRC The Hole only exists because this board did away with the practice of deleting posts, something thats pretty common on a lot of other boards.
