All over the country today there have been parades, concerts and other tributes to our armed forces, in recognition of all that they do for us and the sacrifices they continue to make for this country. As the daughter of soldier, brought up mainly on military installations all over the world, I am glad that the country has the opportunity to show its appreciation for the military. This is public recognition that is well overdue, in my opinion.

And yet ... this was another one of...

Like millions of other people, I've just watched ITV's tribute to Michael Jackson. So much vitality, so much talent. It's hard to believe he's dead. The programme was very moving, with testaments to MJ from Smokey Robinson, Gladys Knight and Liza Minelli, amongst others. It's extraordinary that this programme was ready to go within 24 hours of his death. Perhaps it had been prepared to be shown next month to capitalise on his concerts? Those who spoke of him obviously did so without any knowledge...
