Peace and blessings be upon you

Please repeat after me .............."an Australian Army Sergeant is not - nor ever has been - a Sarmajor" - although the reverse is usually true. A Sarmajor (unlike a Sergeant) is a Warrant Officer and has vastly more authority, status and experience - and is addressed as 'Sir" by all rank and file (including Sergeants and other Non Commissioned Officers). The difference between Sergeants and Warrant Officers is similar to that between Jesus Christ (most soldiers understand that a WO is the reincarnation of that august personage) and the arch-angel Gabriel Lucky for you that you are not standing in front of me on the parade ground (rigidly at attention) where I could gently explain to you the error of your ways. Only a very stupid or suicidal soldier would ever call an Australian (or British) Warrant Officer "sarge" And what is this "ex" bullshit. Although I retired from the Australian Army over 23 years ago I still retain my rank (not that the bastards still pay me or that I can order anyone to mow my lawn) and am legally entitled to wear my uniform (albeit with a metal "R" on my shoulders- indicating retired) to mess and other army functions. The operative word is "retired" You should have known that Underwood.

I thought Sergeant Majors were like battleships, not retired but decommissioned (and occasionally blown up to rest on the bottom of the ocean).

![]() When it comes to the details of military rank and file, I know virtually nothing. Although this weekend helped a smidge. (spent the weekend with a bunch of civil war reinactors. Only slightly before your time...) I should have followed my normal rule of thumb on such subjects and kept silent.

Nah, the sense of humor is great, as long as it's directed in some other direction...

Funnily enough yes. I have been thinking about this, but you won't like my suggestion.
I am wondering whether it might be wise to merge the US Forum with World Events after the US Election. My reasoning being less is more. Not what many want to hear, but I am just throwing the suggestion to the floor so to speak. |

Dave, didn't we try that before, and ended up separating out the US Forum again? I may be misremembering...

Looking at World Events today, I think there were only a couple of new threads posted up to a couple of hours ago. By adding a UK Specific Forum, it will only further dilute the participation in the forums. |

Merging the US/World Events forums isn't a good idea.

As mentioned in another thread in the World Events Forum, I have been giving this issue a lot of thought. Whilst it is apparent that of those who have voted in this poll are split as to whether a new forum covering UK only topics should be created. I feel it is perhaps worthwhile to create a UK centric forum.
However before I go ahead and create a UK Forum, there has to be sufficient demand for said forum. In all honesty I would imagine the posting activity here would have to nearly double, for a UK only Forum to be warranted. Again with the majority of those additional posts covering UK topics. The popularity of P & CA and the activity here has certainly increased dramactically over the last few months. So for those who would like a UK Forum, there is hope the activity on the forum will increase to a level that will enable the use of one. |

That's given me a goal. I'm going to avoid posting on UK matters for the next month to help weaken the resultant; maybe even divert it and cause an arrhyth |
