Default SCOTUS: Gang of 14 to prevent fillibuster of Alito

Apparently some of the Democrats on the "Gang of 14" have already conceded that Alito is eminently qualified for a seat on SCOTUS, and that his track record shows impartiality and strict adherence to the law.

I'm also hearing that the accelerated hearings are extremely probable at this point - in large part because Alito's track record is on the books.

The guy will be confirmed, assuming he doesn't do anything dumb during his congressional hearings.

The hearings will begin on Jan.9,2006...
They are expected to vote on Jan.20,2006...
Arlen Spector said he was not going to rush through anything at this moment...
So the accelerated hearings before Christmas are not going to happen...it may not be as quick as the white house wanted...but you can't always get what you want....

I bet they wanted O'Connor out before that abortion case that is coming up ...

I'm hearing that the delay was to further remove the possibility of a filibuster from happeneing. Obviously Alito hasa lengthy track record, and this helps give Senators plenty of time to go over his decisions. Now, they can't cliam the whole thing was"rushed" and use that as an excuse to filibuster.

I'd rather get the hearings done ASAP, and include all the glowing recommendations of the Democrats back when he was confirmed to the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals. I don't see how the Democrats could filibuster him in any case, but if this helps quiet them down, so be it.

I agree that he should be confirmed, but we can forget him till the middle of January.
Now what else can divert attention away from "getting us the hell out of Iraq"?
Can we revoke the authority Congress yielded to Bush before he (seeing his poll numbers still plunging) might want to invade Iran based on his equally stupid, arrogant loud mouthed counterpart there.

His poll numbers are frightening because he is getting so close to "having nothing to loose".

By the way, though I feel all alone in this, I tend to think that we would all be better served if we concentrated on how to get Iraqis in charge of their country rather than the reason we got in there in the first place.

The fact that there may be terrorist training camps is not a valid excuse.
Saddam didn't allow these camps.. (except maybe one or two in Kurdish country).
We created the "void as to control" and there is just as good of an arguement that US staying longer could make it even worse.
Anyone think that there are not such camps in our ally Pakistan?

I say, "when in doubt - pullout"
